NEW YORK, NY, February 18, 2026—The NYC LGBT Community Center denounces NYU Langone’s decision to discontinue gender-affirming medical care for transgender youth. To be clear: gender-affirming care is evidence-based, medically necessary healthcare endorsed by every major medical association in our country. NYU Langone’s actions betray transgender youth and directly counter New York State law.

Decisions driven by a ‘regulatory environment’ should never come at the expense of our community’s health, safety, and dignity.

We call on our state’s leaders to ensure our state’s laws are enforced, and we urge healthcare providers statewide to demonstrate courage and integrity by complying with them.

The Center continues to stand with transgender youth and their families. We remain committed to fighting for access to care and supporting medical professionals providing life-saving services.
