As our community faces an onslaught of homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic, and racist legislation, The Center remains a safe space for empowerment, healing, advocacy, remembrance, and celebration.
This year’s theme is “Our History. Our Future. Our Pride.” Despite the challenges we face, our history, our future, and our Pride belong to us. Attempts to erase our history and suppress our freedoms cannot take away what is rightfully ours. The Center continues to protect New York’s vibrant LGBTQ+ culture and long-standing history, as we build our future together. When we come together as a beautifully diverse community, we are unstoppable.

In a world that attempts to erase our identities, we’re reclaiming our Pride with our stories. We’re featuring three community members whose stories reflect how The Center shows up for community during Pride Month and beyond.

In an ever-shifting world, my hope is that Pride will continue to provide the same thing for others that it did for me: affirmation, community, a recognition of political responsibility, and a joyous sense of place. Whatever the future may hold for the LGBTQ+ community, I am certain that The Center will continue to be at the heart of it.
He/Him

The abundant needs of our community in an increasingly difficult world is clear. People can become numb to those visibly struggling when we encounter them in our day-to-day lives. That is why places like The Center are so important: the programs here are truly love-affirming and life-saving. When I see someone struggling, I know that because of The Center, I am empowered with the tools and knowledge to help them.
She/Her

It can be life-changing when someone genuinely cares about you and provides you radical empathy. Places like The Center are needed to nurture the next generation. The Center’s Youth Team shows me and so many other LGBTQ+ young people every day how much they care about us. For that, I am forever grateful.
