ABOUT RECOVERY

Our LGBT communities face a number of health disparities, including a greater risk for alcohol and substance use, and The Center makes it a priority to offer assistance for people struggling with such issues. From individual and group counseling to support for significant others and a licensed outpatient treatment program, The Center has the tools you need to help you through the recovery process.

The Center is committed to supporting the health and well-being of our LGBT community, and our recovery program incorporates a range of holistic services. If you would like help leading a healthier, sober life, The Center is here for you.

SUBSTANCE USE TREATMENT

Are you struggling with sobriety, or do you know someone who is? The Center offers the only New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) licensed, outpatient substance use treatment program specifically designed for the LGBT community. Using an abstinence-based model, The Center’s recovery program is a medically supervised, intensive program for substance use and dependence.

Clients receive an individualized treatment plan, weekly one-on-one counseling and facilitated group support. The Center’s recovery services include:

  • Individual and group counseling
  • Biopsychosocial assessments
  • Medical assessments
  • Psychiatric evaluations and psychotropic medication management
  • Supportive counseling for significant others
  • Alcohol and substance use education
  • Community outreach and education
  • DUI assessments
  • Recovery maintenance

Screening, intake, medical assessment and counselor assignment are required for all group participants. Please contact The Center for details about Medicaid, insurance coverage, out-of-network reimbursement and sliding scale payment options. Length of treatment is assessed on a case-by-case basis, but generally lasts 6-12 months, with the first three months being more intensive.

RECOVERY SUPPORT

Overcoming a dependency is a major challenge and requires the right tools and support. The Center hosts a number of support groups that meet to discuss the basics of addiction, challenges of abstinence and techniques to avoid relapse.
