How do contemporary artists push boundaries, explore new materials, and invent new concepts? This series of art appreciation workshops will examine how artists experiment with materials, processes, and ideas, inspired by artwork on view in the Whitney Biennial 2024: Even Better Than the Real Thing. Participants will consider how artists use formal elements such as line, shape, color, texture, and composition, or how they transform everyday objects.
This 6 part series led by artist and educator Stina Puotinen is designed to connect or re-connect participants with their own creativity while engaging with the Whitney’s collection and exhibitions. Through conversation and playful prompts, participants will explore a wide range of materials and processes for art making, including but not limited to sculpture, collage, painting, and drawing. No experience necessary – come as you are!
A FREE Museum visit is included for all participants as our final session!
