We are requesting your attendance because we know that you share our commitment to the fight against HIV/AIDS. Like you, we are deeply concerned about the proposed city budget cuts that threaten HIV prevention and support services and access to healthcare in general.
These cuts are happening while Brooklyn is still reeling from the closure of the Crown Heights sexual health clinic and while the entire city prepares for the closure of the COVID-19 community health centers that were filling the gaps in STD and other testing. With operating hours still limited at sexual health clinics (M-F 8:30-3:30PM), the plan for maintaining testing capacity is unclear.
These clinic closures occur as positive MPOX cases rise in 2024 and could surge even higher in the summer months and while COVID transmissions remain steady. We as a community and a city must remain invested in sexual health services to fight against ongoing HIV, MPOX and COVID transmissions.
