THE PAT PARKER/VITO RUSSO LIBRARY

Founded in 1991 to encourage and facilitate the reading and research of LGBT literature, the Pat Parker/Vito Russo Center Library is named in honor of individuals who championed LGBT causes in their professional and personal lives. The Center Library is a lending library connected with others around the city, sponsor of a monthly reading group, and producer and/or collaborator for literary events of interest to the LGBT community.

Regular library hours are:
Tuesday-Thursday: 6-9 p.m.
Friday-Saturday: 1-4 p.m.

The following information provides an overview of library operating procedures and policies. Please contact The Center if you have additional questions or visit the complete catalog to view all current titles.

HOW TO JOIN

To join the library we require either a photo ID with address or a photo ID and additional proof of address (i.e. utility bill, lease, etc.) with address in the local tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT).

CHECKING OUT MEDIA

Non-circulating items such as reference books, travel books, art and photography books and periodicals may not be removed from the library. Media that is available for check out are subject to the following policies:

  • For Center Members: Books may be checked out for two weeks at a time and renewed once for an additional two weeks. Center members are limited to checking out two books at a time. Two videos and DVDs may be checked out for one week at a time and cannot be renewed.

  • For Standard Patrons: Books may be checked out for two weeks at a time and cannot be renewed. Standard Patrons are limited to checking out one book at a time. For full library borrowing privileges, please become a Center Member. 

RETURNING MEDIA

Books, videos and DVDs may be returned in person during regular library hours:
Tuesday-Thursday: 6-9 p.m.
Friday-Saturday: 1-4 p.m.

There is a $0.25 late fee charged per library day for books, up to a maximum of $5. For videos and DVDs, the late fee is $1 per library day, up to a maximum of $15. Lost items incur a fine of $20 or the replacement cost of the item, whichever is higher

FOOD & BEVERAGE

Food and beverages are not permitted in the library at any time. Thank you for keeping our library clean and our media protected.
