NEW YORK, NY, September 18, 2026—The Center denounces NYU Langone and Mount Sinai’s choices to end gender-affirming medical care for transgender youth.

These shameful decisions set a dangerous precedent and further restrict access to medically necessary care for transgender young people and their families in New York City.

The truth: Gender-affirming care saves young people’s lives.

We call on our state and city leaders to use every available tool to preserve and expand access to gender-affirming medical care and ensure transgender youth and their families are not sacrificed. Patients, their families, and their healthcare providers have the right to make decisions on medical care. Political pressure or fear of federal retaliation has no place in this decision.

We stand with New York’s transgender youth and their families, and with the medical professionals who have the courage and integrity to provide essential care despite political interference. The Center will continue to fight for access to gender-affirming care and defend our community’s rights and dignity.
