When I was 10 years old, I asked my mom what integrity was. She said: “Integrity is doing the right thing whether anyone is looking or not.” Too often, members of the LGBTQ+ community end up relying on themselves to shape the integrity they want to see in the world. We turn to places like The Center to uplift our livelihoods and our values. I’m proud of that!

I’ve been connected to The Center through the Northeast AIDS Ride for 20 years. Initially, I signed up for the challenge, but I learned quickly that the mileage isn’t the point at all. The point is the laughs, the mutual support all the way through, the deeply moving moments—and of course, the enormous difference we collectively make for our community. Through it, I’m surrounded by people who have become dear friends, and I’ve come to know the stories of loss, triumph, and courage that keep bringing us back. We are a community of activists and good neighbors—a perfect reflection of The Center itself.
