The Center's Young Leaders presents "Stonewall With a T"
Join The Center’s Young Leaders for a private, premiere documentary screening of “Stonewall With a T” followed by a Q&A discussion with director Samy Nemir Olivares & NYTAG co-founders Kiara St. James and Tanya Walker.
About the Film
“Stonewall with a T” examines the New York City transgender activism movement—spanning from the Stonewall era to the present—in a decades-long struggle to fight against discrimination, and acquire civil rights and recognition both under the law and in society. With a particular focus on transgender women of color, the film highlights the little-known chapter of LGBTQ history around the passage of gay rights bill SONDA and the subsequent long battle from the trans community to pass GENDA.
Produced by Latinx activist Samy Nemir Olivares, the film features dozens of original interviews with present transgender activists blended with never-before-seen footage of pivotal LGBTQ history, including pioneer icons like Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson.
Featuring Kiara St. James, Tanya Walker, Shea Diamond, Miss Major, Alok Vaid-Menon, LaLa Zannell, Brooke Cerda Guzman, Cecilia Gentili, Laverne Cox, Melissa Sklarz, Mel Wymore, Sen. Thomas Duane, Matt Foreman and more.
Original music by nonbinary queer songwriter Ryan Natsis.
