The Center's Statement on Trump v. Hawaii
Discriminatory travel bans are an attack on our nation’s principles of freedom and dignity. The Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision in Trump v. Hawaii upholds travel bans against nationals from majority Muslim countries, and is a disturbing endorsement of racist and xenophobic policies used to treat communities of color as inherently suspect on the basis of faith, immigration status and national origin. The court’s ruling opens the door to more divisive policies that will continue to discriminate against people of other races, ethnicities and identities under the guise of national security. The impact that this decision has on families and community members is devastating, but we will continue to stand strong in support of all those who are affected in the face of bigotry and hate.
Join us today in Foley Square at 6 p.m. to rally in support of Muslim, refugee and immigrant communities.
