Free To Be Me

It is a crime to be LGBTQ in more than 70 countries around the world. Every day, LGBTQ people flee in search of a place where they can live freely and safely. Many find refuge in the United States.

In this moment of national xenophobia, transphobia and homophobia, award-winning photographer Steven Laxton is teaming up with Immigration Equality, the nation’s leading LGBTQ immigrant rights organization, and NYC’s LGBT Community Center to celebrate trans and queer asylum recipients building new lives in the U.S. This photography exhibit shares their powerful stories.

Presented in partnership with Immigration Equality.
