SECOND TUESDAY PRESENTS “HEADCASE: LGBTQ WRITERS & ARTISTS ON MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS”

February 12, 7:00 pm-9:00 pm

$10

Join editors Stephanie Schroeder and Teresa Theophano, LMSW in conversation with contributors Donald V. Brown, Jr.; Christian Huygen, PhD; Nikkiesha N. McLeod and Calvin Rey Moen as they discuss their creative and personal approaches to mental health and wellness. The pieces in “Headcase” offer personal views from providers and clients about their experiences, including a therapist who also happens to be transgender, a lesbian writer and psychotherapist recounting her mother’s experience with forced institutionalization in the 1950s, a queer illustrator presenting illustrations that represent a panoply of identity-related issues, an award-winning gay male writer discussing his struggle with depression and a trans activist of color writing about surviving madness in the inner city. Crossing boundaries of race and ethnic identity, age, gender identity and socioeconomic status, “Headcase” is intended for LGBTQ communities, mental health consumers and their friends and families.
