Join us on Saturday, December 6, from 6 to 8 PM, for the Opening Reception for The Garden!
The Garden is an art exhibition featuring eight lesbian artists, inspired by the Monique Wittig article “The Garden,” originally published in French in 1978, and translated by Lorie Sauble-Otto for a 2007 issue of GLQ: A Journal of Lesbian and Gay Studies (Vol. 13, No. 4). Wittig, a French author, philosopher, feminist, and lesbian theorist, imagined radical spaces of lesbian existence; this exhibition offers a loose, contemporary interpretation of that vision.
Through darkroom prints, collage, scanned flowers, a deck of cards, photographic portraits, videos, and more, The Garden showcases lesbian experience and community at a time when LGBTQ+ lives face renewed threats. Bringing together artists Rhiannon Adam, Deborah Bright, Sara Duell, Naima Green, Lindsey Perryman, Sunny Leerasanthanah, Tray Tsui, and Jeanette Spicer, the exhibition foregrounds lesbian presence, creativity, and connection.
The Garden will be on view at the Bureau from December 6, 2025 through March 1, 2026.
