Book: A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole. This picaresque novel, published in 1980,eleven years after the author's suicide, went on to win the Pulitzer Price for Fiction in 1981 and has since become a canonical work of modern literature of the southern United States. The novel's hero, Ignatius J. Reilly, is a huge, obese, fractious, fastidious Don-Quixote type who lives in New Orleans' French Quarter and whose life is characterized by high and low comic adventures with the denizens of the city's lower depths.
