Gay Yoga Sangha

July 9, 9:30 am-10:30 am

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 9:30 am on Tuesday, repeating until August 27, 2019

The Gay Yoga Sangha is a Yoga group for all LGBT practitioners who like practicing in each other’s safe company. Founded in 2017 by Tim Groen, a Jivamukti Yoga and Advanced Hatha Yoga teacher based in New York, the sangha will take place weekly in July and August at The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center in New York City.

‘Sangha’ is a Sanskrit word and means ‘community’.

The Gay Yoga Sangha offers a weekly, all-level, 60-minute Yoga session led by Tim Groen, during which you will stretch your body, increase circulation, and calm your thoughts. Every week there will be a different gay co-presenter to add something different to the class; a brief led discussion, live music, a guided meditation, anything that is part of the world of Yoga.

The GYS aims to provide a safe, encouraging space for all LGBT Yogis to practice. Yoga, for the most part, has been a safe place for us in terms of physical activity; for the most part Yoga doesn’t attract judgemental jocks (M/F) or toxic masculinity. At the GYS we amplify this sense of being at the right place to practice yoga. This sangha will give you the opportunity to strengthen your Yoga practice and deepen your knowledge in the fun company of new friends with whom you share your LGBTQ+ identity and interest in Yoga.

The classes are suitable for all levels of practitioners. Please wear comfortable clothes you can move in, and don’t forget to bring your own mat!
