Center Reads: Less by Andrew Sean Greer
May 7, 8:00 pm-10:00 pm
Join us for Less! In this novel- by Andrew Sean Greer- Arthur Less will almost fall in love in Paris, almost fall to his death in Berlin, barely escape to a Moroccan ski chalet from a Saharan sandstorm, accidentally book himself as the (only) writer-in-residence at a Christian Retreat Center in Southern India, and encounter, on a desert island in the Arabian Sea, the last person on Earth he wants to face. Somewhere in there: he will turn fifty. Through it all, there is his first love as well as his last. A scintillating satire of the American abroad, a rumination on time and the human heart, a bittersweet romance of chances lost, by an author The New York Times has hailed as “inspired, lyrical,” “elegiac,” “ingenious,” as well as “too sappy by half,” Less shows a writer at the peak of his talents raising the curtain on our shared human comedy.
The Center’s book discussion group meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 8:00pm (with a few noted exceptions). We meet at The LGBT Community Center, 208 West 13th Street (near Seventh Avenue) in NYC. We meet in various rooms, so ask at the information desk for the room number. After the book club, some of us go for a late diner dinner (usually a diner in the neighborhood) to continue with more general discussion. Everyone is always welcome to join.
