PERMANENT ARTWORKS

Interested in checking out works by Keith Haring, Martin Wong and Barbara Sandler? Want to try to find the unique pieces scattered throughout The Center’s halls and stairways? Visit us to view our incredible permanent art collection, with many pieces created for the 1989 Center Show exhibit in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion.

Don’t worry if you’re not in town to check out these rare gems—in 2016, The Center became the first LGBT specific space to be featured on Google Cultural Institute, which means you can view our art and special exhibits from anywhere, at any time!

LGBT ARCHIVE

The Center’s National Archive serves to preserve the history of our community and its rich heritage. Founded in 1990 by volunteer archivist Rich Wandel, the archive provides a look into the lives and experiences of LGBT people throughout the years.

The collection includes thousands of papers, periodicals, correspondence and photographs donated by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals and organizations. Archive materials are accessible weekly and by appointment. For information on donating papers and ephemera, contact The Center.

THE CENTER LIBRARY

Named in honor of individuals who championed LGBT causes in their professional and personal lives, The Pat Parker/Vito Russo Center Library is a valued and unique community resource. It was founded in 1991 to expand access to LGBT literature and to encourage and facilitate research of LGBT issues. Visitors come to research topics, browse the collection and borrow books and videos.

BUREAU OF GENERAL SERVICES – QUEER DIVISION

The Center is proud to host the Bureau of General Services—Queer Division to offer original and provocative artistic programming for all of LGBT NYC. The Bureau is a queer cultural center, bookstore and event space that seeks to excite and educate a self-confident, sex-positive and supportive queer community. It hosts readings, performances, film screenings, book discussion groups and workshops to provide an open and inclusive space for dialogue and socializing.
