Record:18
Date:1976 - 1991

Provenance

The Susan I. Frankel Papers were gathered by Ms. Frankel as a leader of various lesbian and gay social workers organizations in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. In 1992, they were donated by her to the National Archive of Lesbian and Gay History. A further group of papers were donated by Her in September 1999 containing handwritten notes and memos to various contacts revolving around the advancement of the LGBT community.

Scope and Content

The Frankel Papers consist mostly of correspondence pertaining to various lesbian and gay social workers organizations in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s including the Gay Social Services Alliance, The Association of Lesbian and Gay Social Workers, and the Committee for the Advancement of Civil and Human Rights for Homosexual People. The majority of the correspondence is addressed to Susan Frankel and to Ron Ginsberg. Copies of letters they wrote to others, including announcements of meetings, and the minutes of those meetings, are also included. A copy of the script of the “CBS Reports” television documentary “Gay Power, Gay Politics” which aired on Saturday, April 26, 1980, is also included.

The papers were received unfoldered and in no discernible order.
