This collection was donated by Burt Lazarim and Frank Ireland, close friends of Richard Foltz, who settled Foltz’s affairs at the end of his life.
Scope and Content
This collection contains play notes, music sheets, personal notes, play scripts, audio tapes of Foltz’s Christmas music, and many photographs depicting Foltz’s life and activities.
History or Bio
Richard Foltz was a songwriter, musician, stage manager, actor, teacher, and leader. He was born in Woodstock, Virginia on May 28, 1942. Foltz moved to New York City in 1966. Foltz was involved in theater production, including working with the original New York production of “Boys in the Band,” in 1968. Foltz was also a founding member of Chelsea Gay Association in 1978, and was part of Out Music in the 1980s. In 1996, he produced the album “Richard Foltz, A Songwriter’s Christmas.” Foltz died January 25, 2014 in New York City.
