Patrik Moreton Fire Island Snapshots

The collection was donated to the archives by housemate Chris Lipari in January 1997 after the AIDS related death of Moreton in May of 1995.

Scope and Content

These were the personal photographs of Patrik Moreton. Most of the photos in this collection are of life in the Pines between 1984 and 1994, with a smaller amount of family photos, foreign travel, camping and the 1986 Gay Games. The photos chronicle the large house parties of the mid to late eighties (popular on Fire Island) as well as the guests and housemates at “Sailor House” on Sail and Ocean Avenues.

Some of the “starlets” who performed at the Hollywood Shore Leave party were Ann Miller (Robert Donnelly), Rita Hayworth (David Merrill) and the two co-creators of the event Carmen Miranda (Aldyn McKean) and Marlene Dietrich (Patrik Moreton).

History or Bio

Patrik Moreton was a long time resident of New York City and summer resident of the Fire Island Pines. He worked as a hair, wig and make-up designer for more then fifty Broadway productions, including Grease, Little Foxes, and Hamlet. Starting in 1985 and for the next three years Moreton and his housemates produced the Hollywood Shore Leave party at “Sailor House” on Sail and Ocean Avenues in the Pines. Moreton died from AIDS in May of 1995.
