Scope and Content

A collection of bibliographies and course syllabi donated by Jonathan Ned Katz. Dating 1919–1997, the materials cover a range of topics relating to sexuality, women’s studies, and gay and lesbian studies. The bulk of the bibliographies date from the 1970s and would be useful to those seeking further research in women’s fiction, gay male literature, women’s liberation, theater, law and other topics. The collection also includes several syllabi from sexuality and women’s studies courses that include additional bibliographies.

Also included is a lesbian and gay services/ resources directory compiled by the NYC Comptroller’s office in 1989.

History or Bio

Jonathan Ned Katz (1938– ) is a historian of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and heterosexual American history. He is the author of Gay American History (1976), The Gay/Lesbian Almanac (1983), The Invention of Heterosexuality (1995), and Love Stories: Sex Between Men Before Homosexuality (2001) among other books and articles.
