This collection of papers was donated by James Burke on November 13, 1995 and was added to again in January of 1996 with a note attached more to come. His lover’s papers are also here in collection #042 Daniel Krumholtz Papers. Added to again May 22 & 23, 1996.

Scope and Content

This collection of James Burke’s papers contain a moderate amount of documentation of the showing of the Quilt in New York. Mr. Burke worked at organizing the volunteers to staff the setting up, the taking down and the reading of the names on the Quilt while it was being shown in New York. It also contains some correspondence, and his enrollment in at least one (1) drug protocol for a person with AIDS.

History or Bio

James Burke is a gay man who was born November 10, 1954 in Brewster, New York. He moved to the city in October 1972. He worked as a grants / fundraising writer until 1995. He received his degree from Hunter College, his degree is in English / with an emphasis on writing. He worked for a time as a bartender at both The Saint and the River Club. He lived with his lover of eleven months Daniel Krumholtz, in the village, until Mr. Krumholtz’ death on October 5, 1990.
