Scope and Content
This collection contains documents, mailings, flyers, private papers, letters, and records of organizations to which Mr. Fry belonged and participated in between November 1988 and October 1999.
Two thirds of the collection centers on the Stonewall 25 International March on the United Nations to affirm the human rights of Lesbian and Gay people which took place on June 26th 1994, during which Mr Fry served as Co-Chair of the planning committee.
The bulk of these papers encompass all vital aspects of the organization, planning, fundraising, and orchestration of the Stonewall 25 International March and the large variety of formal and informal responses to both the planning phase and the event itself including the video project of the event “The Future Is Ours”.
History or Bio
Franklyn G. Fry graduated from New York University, and began his career in Stage Management in both regional and off Broadway Theater in 1984.
He began volunteering for Heritage of Pride in a variety of capacities in June of 1985.
Mr. Fry stage managed the New York City Pride Rallies in Central Park and Union Square from 1988 to 1991.
In 1990 he served as Heritage of Pride’s March Committee Chair for one year before serving as the Heritage of Pride’s Co-Coordinator between 1992-1993, and in 1993 Mr. Fry was elected as Co-Chair of the Stonewall 25 International March, a position he held till the March and Rally in June 1994 before returning full time to his career as a union stage manager.
