2016: A year in review
For over 30 years The Center has been the heart and home of the LGBT community, a space where everyone is celebrated for who they are. The Center empowers people to lead healthy, successful lives while celebrating our diversity and advocating for justice and opportunity.
In 2016…
We empowered today’s LGBT youth to become tomorrow’s leaders.
An estimated 30% of NYC’s youth in foster care identify as LGBT. Sam, who was placed in foster care at 15, tells her story and gives a voice to thousands of LGBT young people in the foster care system.
We marched.
Hundreds marched with us in the 2016 NYC Pride March and visited The Center for a special Pride scavenger hunt that ended with a commemorative photo.
We gave community members a platform to amplify their voice.
On November 14, 2016, The Center welcomed our vibrant community at a gathering that provided a safe space for healing, connection and expression as the nation prepared for a new Presidential administration.
We built community connections.
From our LGBT family play days, to the LGBT Career Fair to our 275 mile AIDS ride, Cycle for the Cause, we provided space for community members to connect, celebrate, find support and heal at events and gatherings.
We couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you for your support.
